Control Resonant arrives with a technical arsenal that puts the RTX 5070 through a punishing test. Remedy's new release leverages path tracing and NVIDIA's DLSS 4.5, but only the right settings unlock smooth gameplay at high resolutions.

With path tracing set to Ultra and Ray Reconstruction enabled, Control Resonant quickly shows how hard it can push the RTX 5070. Remedy's latest game is a technical workout for modern hardware, especially when every visual effect is maxed out. The graphics are impressive, but the performance hit is just as real.

At 4K resolution with Ultra graphics and ray tracing off, the RTX 5070 averages 44fps. Turn on full path tracing, and frame rates drop to 29fps-a 34% decrease-even with DLSS Quality mode upscaling from 1440p. Control Resonant is designed to challenge hardware, not make things easy.

Remedy's minimum requirements are modest: a GTX 1070 is enough for 1080p. But things change once ray tracing is involved. For 4K at 60fps with path tracing, Remedy recommends an RTX 5080, making it clear that full path tracing is meant for top-tier GPUs. The test system here uses an RTX 5070 (12 GB GDDR7, 192-bit bus, PCIe 5.0 x16), Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, 48GB DDR5 at 6000MT/s, and a 2TB WD Black SN850X, all running on an Acer Nitro XV275K P5 4K Mini LED monitor. The graphics menu tucks path tracing under the Ray Tracing preset, with separate controls for lighting and reflections. Ultra means full path tracing, and that's where the hardware starts to struggle.

Enabling 3x Frame Generation is the only way to get smooth gameplay at 4K Ultra with all effects on. The average frame rate jumps to 66fps, but the base frame rate is still 29fps-Frame Generation is doing most of the work, and the difference in responsiveness is noticeable, if subtle. At 1440p, the RTX 5070 finally keeps up: Ultra settings, RT Ultra, DLSS Quality, Ray Reconstruction, and 3x Frame Generation deliver a 112fps average, with a 79fps 1% low. The GPU runs at 98% usage, but gameplay feels smooth and responsive.

Control Resonant is positioned as a showcase for the latest RTX pipeline, with path tracing, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and Frame Generation all working together to deliver next-generation visuals-though only the most powerful GPUs can fully unlock its potential.

The biggest visual upgrade comes from reflections. With RT Ultra, cars, windows, puddles, and wet roads reflect more of the world, and shadows look more natural. Indoors, indirect lighting differences show up, but you only notice if you stop and compare. During combat, the jump from Medium to Ultra is less obvious-Medium already looks good, and Ultra's extra detail stands out mostly in still scenes.

Ray Reconstruction has its own quirks. Fast camera moves can cause a slight jitter or pattern around the main character, Dylan, especially in reflective areas. Turning off Ray Reconstruction makes these artifacts worse; turning it on helps, but doesn't fully fix them. After some testing, it's clear that Ray Reconstruction is better left enabled for a more stable image.

Control Resonant costs ₹3,599 on Steam in India, with the Digital Deluxe Edition at ₹4,199. For most players, the Standard Edition makes more sense. Trying to run 4K on the RTX 5070 isn't practical-1440p with DLSS Quality, Ray Reconstruction, and 3x Frame Generation is the best balance of performance and visuals. RT Ultra looks better, but Medium is the more sensible choice for a full playthrough.

Remedy's technical ambition is obvious, but after a few hours, the graphics fade into the background and the game's strengths-combat, movement, and atmosphere-take over. The technology is impressive, but it's the gameplay that keeps you playing. For those interested in hardware, the experience is similar to what was reported earlier about monitors: the right settings and hardware matter, but the best tech is the one you stop noticing. Control Resonant is a tough benchmark, but it's also a reminder that great games are more than just their specs.
