Marvel's Wolverine is seeing its Metacritic user score drop to 6.4 out of 10 after thousands of negative reviews, sparking debate about the game and the impact of review bombing.

Marvel's Wolverine has seen its Metacritic user score fall sharply to 6.4 out of 10 after a wave of review bombing. More than 2,700 user reviews have appeared, with over a third giving the game the lowest possible scores-many just a 0 or 1. This is a far cry from the reception PlayStation and Insomniac Games likely expected for a major release.

The main complaints focus on the game's design and the involvement of Sweet Baby Inc. Some reviews go as far as calling Marvel's Wolverine "the worst game ever." The flood of short, extremely negative ratings leaves little doubt that this is a coordinated review bombing effort. While review bombing has hit other games before, such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, it's rare to see it at this scale for a PlayStation exclusive.

The official critic Metascore is already lower than Insomniac's previous Marvel games, but the user reviews have pushed the criticism further. Many of the negative scores offer little feedback beyond anger or vague disappointment. One user, unhinged9226, wrote, "This game should not exist."

  • Marvel's Wolverine launched with a Metascore of 77-78, which is generally favorable but notably below Insomniac's previous Marvel titles. The user score, however, dropped to 6.4/10 amid a wave of review bombing, with over a third of 2,700+ reviews being strongly negative.

Outside the review bombing, opinions about Marvel's Wolverine are mixed. Some players find things to like, while others are disappointed. The debate has spread across gaming forums and social media, but the numbers on Metacritic are clear: the user score is deep in the red, and the site's vulnerability to review bombing is under renewed scrutiny.

On the technical side, Marvel's Wolverine runs only on PlayStation 5, using the custom AMD Zen 2 octa-core CPU (up to 3.5 GHz), RDNA 2 GPU, 16 GB GDDR6 unified memory, and a fast NVMe SSD. The game targets 4K resolution with dynamic scaling and ray tracing. Firmware version 24.02-09.20.00 or later is recommended for best stability and to use the latest DualSense controller features. Italian players get full localization, and the game meets PEGI 18 standards as required by AGCOM regulations for digital content.

With the review bombing wave still fresh, attention is turning to how the game will sell. Whether Marvel's Wolverine can recover and match Insomniac's earlier successes will depend on how players respond beyond the Metacritic numbers. Marvel's Wolverine's situation highlights how easily online platforms can be used to distort public opinion. When a third of thousands of reviews are overwhelmingly negative and often lack real critique, the usefulness of user scores comes into question. Unless sites like Metacritic address how review bombing works, every major release will remain open to this kind of manipulation.
